Rashid's message for the Thomas Cup squad.

KUALA LUMPUR Wednesday, May 16, 2018 :  "You do not have to be perfect to be a legend."

The message was delivered by Rashid Sidek to the national badminton players ahead of the Thomas Cup 2018 in Bangkok, beginning Sunday.

Rashid, who was part of the Thomas Cup 1992 winner, said his side was not perfect but managed to create history because of his passion and passion.

Unfortunately, since then Malaysia has continued to drought the prestigious title for 26 years.

"Do you think we have a perfect squad in 1992? I now admit it, we are not really perfect.

"And most disappointingly when we lost to South Korea (3-2) in the group's first debut, a little bit of our motivation was affected but it again burned our spirits to get stronger.

"It's not about the spirit of the individual, but rather the team's efforts.

"Do not worry about what people are saying, nobody thought we were going to win in 1992, just like the success of Japan (2014) or Denmark (2016) in the last two editions." We do not have to put pressure on ourselves, "Rashid said.

Speaking after a Uber Mauritius sponsorship at the Olympic Council of Malaysia (MOM) today, the former BAM's individual head coach said it was important for the whole country contingent to take a positive outlook because negative feelings would only bring about defeat.

"The key to success is teamwork. It sounds rather cliche, but it's basic in team events, it's very different from other tournaments.

"It's also important to ensure that no individual is offended or to practice finger pointing, you win as a team and lose as a team.

"Only one of my advice" should never be defeated, until the final score of the victory. "The match does not end until the last point, so play with all the heart and give it everything," explains Rashid, who won the Thomas Cup when he was 23.

The team, led by Datuk Lee Chong Wei, was drawn in Group D with defending champions Denmark, Russia and Algeria and was set to be semi-final by BAM.
