BANGKOK: The country's women's badminton squad need to make more intense planning if they want to go further in the Uber Cup competition two years from now.

Yesterday, Malaysia lost 4-1 to China in Group D's second game, closing their hopes for the quarter-finals after losing 3-2 to Indonesia in the opening game on Monday.

Team captain Vivian Hoo, who failed to contribute any points, admits the team should work harder and plan for a better plan if they want to get through the group stage.
The last time Malaysia reached the last eight Uber Cup group was in 2010 in Kuala Lumpur.

"I realized we failed in the quarter-finals, but at the same time I'm proud of the team's spirit," said Vivian. "Maybe our strategy is not, but I think our performance is not too bad at this tournament.

"If we are able to keep pace and practice like this, I think we have the chance to show better action at next Uber Cup."

Vivian who partnered with Chow Mei Kuan, lost 21-19, 21-15 to China's second doubles Huang Dongping-Yu Zheng.

China's defending champion, 2-0 ahead of world number one Chen Yufei who rose from a set to beat Soniia Cheah 18-21, 22-20, 21-18, and world number one Chen Qingchen-Jia Yifan beat Goh Yea Ching-Soong Fie Cho 21-9, 21-8.

Former world champion Goh Jin Wei however redeived his defeat on Monday - to Gregoria Mariska Tunjung (Indonesia) - surprisingly He Bingjiao 21-9, 17-21, 21-13.

With Vivian-Mei Kuan lost, Lee Ying Ying entered the court to reduce the deficit of defeat, but did not go down when they lost 21-16, 21-15 in the hands of Gao Fangjie.
Malaysia will face France in tomorrow's final match.

"We realize it does not mean anything, but we will fight hard to beat France for the sake of dignity," said Vivian.
